Louis Hayes (also called Louis Hayes with Nat Adderley and Yusef Lateef) is the eponymous debut album by American jazz drummer Louis Hayes recorded in for Vee-Jay Records. The personnel includes the Cannonball Adderley's Quintet with Yusef Lateef in place of the leader. The album was also re-released in under Lateef's name as Contemplation.

Yusef Lateef made a study of exotic scales and he knew how to use them without it sounding in the least bit contrived. The eclecticism of both the tunes and the instrumentation (Lateef plays the Chinese globular flute on one track and an oboe on another) works because of a clear unity of purpose which is apparent throughout the album/5(48).

The Allmusic site awarded the album 4 stars with the review by Stacia Proefrock stating it "takes the risks and the innovations that Lateef was known for, and expands them in a number of different directions all at once, leading to an album that bursts with new ideas and textures, while remaining accessible, and above all, beautiful. Lateef.
