The CD reproduces the very interesting liner notes written by Fennell himself for the original LPs, in which he contrasts, in a slightly emphatic way, "the composer's choice" (the symphony orchestra) and the "people's choise" (the wind band), leading to many 19th century arrangements of orchestral and operatic pops/5(7).

The reasons for buying this cd are (1) the Americana interpretation by Frederick Fennell and the Eastman Wind Ensemble, (2) faithfulness to the original score (3) composition of the band (close to what Sousa had and not a symphony), and (4) quality of the Mercury Living Presence recording/5(25).
